C&D Auction Marts held their annual sale of organic store cattle in Dumfries yesterday that met an easier trade on the year with 27 heifers selling to 261.2p per kg and averaging 224.2p, while 97 bullocks peaked at 301.4p and levelled at 268.6p.

The firm also held its fortnightly sale of regular, commercial store cattle when 52 heifers sold to 259.2p and averaged 213.7p (-11.3p on the fortnight), while 118 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 269p and levelled at 220.2p (-0.6p).

Twenty-four store, B&W bullocks sold to 166p and averaged 136.2p (no change), while 20 store bulls peaked at 275p and levelled at 232.6p (+19.6p).

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 45 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 244p and an average of 227p (-1p on the week), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 239p and levelled at 220p (+4p).

In the rough ring 10 beef cows averaged 141p (no change).

There were also 968 prime hoggs that sold to £156 per head and 300p per kg to average £119 and 251p (+28p).

A modest show of 179 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £137 for Suffolks and average £99, while light/export-type ewes peaked at £53 for Cheviots and levelled at £50.

The firm also sold 6 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 226.5p and an average of 202.7p (+7.2p), while 9 prime bullocks peaked at 239.5p and levelled at 224.5p (+16.2p).

Eighteen prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 238.5p and averaged 209.7p (-9.6p), while 10 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 205.5p and levelled at 175.5p (+14.9p).

In the rough ring 36 beef cows sold to 181.5p and averaged 130.9p (-21.4p), while 104 dairy cows peaked at 165.5p and levelled at 116.4p (+1.6p).

There were also 1567 prime hoggs that sold to £138.80 and 352.2p to average 249.5p (+2.4p), while 6 prime lambs peaked at £140 and 300p to level at 278.5p (+34.8p).

The 85 heavy cast ewes forward sold to £157.50 for a Suffolk and averaged £105.51, while 40 light ewes peaked at £117.50 for Hill Cheviots and levelled at £76.03.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1791 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £144 and 328.6p to average 232.1p (+4.2p).

There were also 431 cast sheep forward that were a plainer show for quality with heavy ewes selling to £163 for a Texel and light ewes peaking at £80.50 for Blackfaces.
