Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 11 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 248p per kg and an average of 236.1p.

In the rough ring 78 beef cows averaged 150.5p and 74 dairy cows levelled at 118.3p.

The firm also had 137 beef-breeding cattle forward at their June sale when the top prices and averages were as follows: Heifers with calf-at-foot to £2750 and averaged £2076.25 for 64; cows with calves £2000 and £1297.86 for 16; bulling heifers £1360 and £989.17 for 48; pedigree bulls to 3200gns for a Limousin and averaged £2520 for 9.

There were also 10 dairy cattle forward that sold to £1750 for a Holstein Friesian and averaged £1201.

Wallets Marts sold 119 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £105 per head and 226.6p per kg to average £84.33 and 200.4p (+13.8p on the week), while 126 prime lambs peaked at £134 and 287.5p to level at £113.59 and 275.7p (+24.3p).

Cast sheep also met a sharper trade on the week with 52 heavy ewes selling to £145 for Suffolks and averaging £99.07, while 108 light/export-type ewes peaked at £85 for Blackfaces and levelled at £60.35.
