UK retail sales volumes rose by a greater-than-expected 0.8 per cent in February, having fallen the previous month, official figures show.

The increase last month, double the 0.4% rise forecast by economists, was driven by a 1.1% jump in sales volumes in the grocery sector. Sales volumes in the non-food category, which tends to reflect more discretionary consumer spending, fell by 0.8 %.
