Partner hires for BDO in big year
ACCOUNTANCY firm BDO has unveiled two new partners in Scotland as part of 13 announced across the UK.
James Paterson is promoted to partner in the firm’s tax practice and is head of the tax team in the Edinburgh office.
Mr Paterson trained with BDO and has more than ten years of experience advising individuals and businesses on complex tax matters, particularly in the property, healthcare and hotel sectors.
Craig Martin becomes a partner in the firm’s corporate finance team and leads the transaction services practice in Scotland. He has worked in corporate finance for over 15 years.
BDO said the appointments reflected its growth ambitions in Scotland as well as those of the entrepreneurial, ambitious clients it advises.
The firm noted that this is the highest number of partner promotions it has awarded in a single round. The promotions become effective from 1 July.
Turcan Connell central belt boost
LEGAL firm Turcan Connell is marking its fifth anniversary in Glasgow with the recruitment of an experienced land and property specialist to service the west of Scotland.
The arrival of Stuart Gibb as senior associate from Wright, Johnston & Mackenzie gives Turcan Connell full coverage in Glasgow across its four key practice areas – including tax and succession, divorce and family law, and business law.
Peter Littlefield, head of the Glasgow office, said: “We took a strategic decision to move into Glasgow in 2012 as around ten per cent of our business was coming from west coast postcodes,” Mr Littlefield said. “As a high-quality private client practice, we pride ourselves on building strong, long-term relationships with clients.
Mr Gibb said current issues exercising those clients - including the impact of the Land & Buildings Transaction Tax, and a range of matters arising from land reform and community empowerment.
Savills expands management team
ESTATE agent Savills has appointed Jonathan Corish as commercialisation manager in the firm’s Glasgow office.
Expanding the company’s property management division, Mr Corish joins from SpaceandPeople where he spent six years as a venue development manager with a UK wide remit rolling out commercial strategies on behalf of clients.
Joining as an associate director, Mr Corish will work across Savills managed properties encompassing both commercial and residential to introduce initiatives that add value for landlords and customer.s
Graeme Clark, head of shopping centre property management at Savills, said the move would help "set ourselves apart.”
