TLT reveals new head of Scotland

LAW firm TLT has appointed disputes partner John Paul Sheridan as its new head of Scotland.  

A solicitor advocate with rights of audience in the Court of Session and the UK Supreme Court, Mr Sheridan has spent his entire career at the firm, having joined as a trainee in 1998

He is a respected commercial litigator, supporting clients in the financial services and real estate sectors.

Mr Sheridan succeeds Tom McEntegart, who oversaw the successful 2012 merger and subsequent integration of legacy Scottish firm Anderson Fyfe with TLT. Mr McEntegart will continue to play a key role in the development of the firm's offering to the financial services sector in Scotland.

Mr Sheridan, who will lead 75 partners and employees, said: "We've had an impressive period of rapid growth across the UK. In Scotland this has meant broadening our expertise and offering to clients, from a recognised heritage in banking & finance disputes and real estate to include areas like employment, licensing, and energy & renewables. This is an exciting time for the business and I'm looking forward to building on the strong platform that Tom has delivered, to realise our ambitious growth plans for the future."

Rettie & Co appoints Karen Turner as lettings director

Property firm Rettie & Co has appointed former Pagan Osborne property director Karen Turner as its director of lettings in a “significant” move.

Ms Turner, arrives as the Rettie looks to roll-out what it calls a one-stop shop asset management offering from sales to lettings. 

Tasked with growing the private client and institutional base while building the lettings business beyond its traditional strongholds in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Ms Turner will work closely with head of private rented sector and build to rent, Hazel Sharp Webb who joined the firm last year.

Rettie & Co has £1 billion of residential assets under management, including advising on more than 3,000 prospective new units for private rent.  

Ms Turner said: “Rettie & Co is particularly well positioned to introduce clients to the business at the outset by sourcing properties, then continuing that service right through to management whether that is for one or one hundred properties.”

Alex Begg boss gets board seat at salmon firm

Loch Duart, the independent salmon farming company based in Sutherland and the Hebrides, has appointed Ian Laird as a Non-Executive Director.

Mr Laird is managing director of Ayrshire-based Alex Begg, a specialist in the design and manufacture of woven accessories, including cashmere products.

Alex Begg counts luxury fashion brands such as Ralph Lauren and Vivienne Westwood among its clients, in addition to leading luxury retailers such as Berdorf Goodman in New York and Wako in Tokyo.

Alban Denton, Managing Director of Loch Duart, said: “Ian Laird joining the Board is a real coup for Loch Duart as he brings with him the understanding of managing the prestigious, global luxury brand, Alex Begg.

“We’re especially pleased that he will contribute his experience of managing a company which has not only doubled in size, but now exports most of what it produces. Macroberts makes corporate appointment

Scottish law firm MacRoberts has strengthened its corporate team with the appointment of corporate lawyer, Louise Mahon.

Ms Mahon joins Glasgow-based MacRoberts with more than 15 years’ experience. She arrives at the firm from Brodies, with an established track record in advising on all areas of corporate law and transactions, including domestic and cross-border merger and acquisitions.

She has worked in private practice in Scotland, Manchester and London and also as an in-house counsel at James Caan’s private equity firm Hamilton Bradshaw.
