GLASGOW university graduate Kevin Sneader has been chosen to become the next global managing partner of McKinsey the consulting giant, write Mark Williamson.

Mr Sneader, who grew up in Glasgow and is a big fan of Celtic, was elected to the position by McKinsey’s 560 plus senior partners. He will serve a three-year term beginning on 1 July.

The former Hutcheson’s Grammar School pupil will succeed Dominic Barton, who has led McKinsey for nine years. The firm has broadened its offering in areas such as digital transformation amid big changes in the business world under Mr Barton.

“More than half of what McKinsey does today did not exist even five years ago,” noted Mr Sneader. He added: “I’m humbled to have earned the trust of my partners and colleagues.”

Mr Sneader has been at McKinsey since 1989 and has held a range of senior positions around the world. He became chairman of McKinskey’s Asia business in 2014 after serving as managing partner of the UK and Ireland operations.

Mr Sneader joined McKinsey as a business analyst in London after reading law at Glasgow university, where he was president of the Student Union The 51-year-old has an MBA from Harvard Business School.

On McKinsey’s website, he says: “Even though I’ve lived all over the world, my outlook remains rooted in Scotland and Scottish community values.”
