I wish Terry Butcher would realise that the match v Argentina is not about him and some game played many years ago. Mr Butcher has been quite rude to Maradona and his comments are not worthy of someone who is assistant manager of our national team.

Either Gordon Smith or Mr Burley should take control of this man's mouth as he is now embarrassing the Scottish nation. Perhaps to make amends, and it would prove favourable with the footballing public in this country, we could induct Maradona into our hall of fame. However, I do not think that Maradona will take notice of someone who was convicted of a crime while at a football match. He beats the great one there.
Morris Holms, Lenzie

An interesting aspect of the Scottish psyche: Maradona cheats with a goal that beats England and qualifies for deification in Scotland! Will we ever as a nation be able to grow up and shake off this ridiculous and mean-spirited attitude to our southern neighbours (with whom, whether we like it or not, we share a great deal of common ancestry) that makes us look such a joke to other nationalities.

Clinging to outdated attitudes based on often historically distorted ideas does little other than make Scotland look foolish and pathetic in world eyes.
