Patricia McKeever is mistaken when she says: "The Catholic Church has always maintained that from conception embryos have souls" (Letters, June 5). However, Ian Bayne (Letters, June 9) is also mistaken in stating that Gregory XIV had a different teaching to Sixtus V on "the ethics of abortion".
