Rangers' miserable week continued last night as they were defeated in the final of last season's Glasgow Cup.

The match at Broadwood was held over from last season and Chris McCart's Celtic youngsters ran out winners thanks to three first half goals in seven minutes.

Rangers had started brighter and Connor Fairley in the Celtic goal had to be alert to deny Greg Wylde. Indeed, it was the Ibrox side that opened the scoring in 13 minutes when Kyle Hutton pounced on a through ball from Kai Naismith to finish.

The lead lasted just two minutes, though, with James Keatings heading a Luca Santonocito free kick into the net. Celtic then went ahead in 17 minutes when winger James Forrest beat goalkeeper Grant Adam to a threaded pass to cross, and midfielder Richard Trowell bundled in from inches out.

A third soo followed, Forrest driving in from six yards out on 22 minutes.

To make matters worse for Rangers, defender Jamie Ness was shown a second yellow card in 38 minutes for a kick at Santonocito.

The second half never really got going with Celtic content to hold on to their lead and Rangers threatening only briefly.
