A LONG-RUNNING land dispute between Celtic FC and Glasgow City Council appears close to a resolution.

Both parties have been engaged in often acrimonious discussions over Celtic's valuation of part of its training facilities which it is required to buy as part of an agreement with the council, even though a purpose-built training academy is being constructed in East Dunbartonshire.

Despite the intervention of the District Valuer it has not been possible, after almost two years, to agree a price for Westthorn Recreation Ground, previously valued at around £5m.

But a common need for land and the advancing redevelopment of Glasgow's east end is signalling a peace deal between the sides.

Running in tandem, Celtic will hand over its coach park, which will be swallowed by the planned East End Regeneration Route, linking the M74 and M8.

In exchange it will be given use of the car park at the proposed National Indoor Sports Arena, opposite Celtic Park, for use on match days at a cost of £32,000 a year.

Celtic will also sell a tract of land it owns within the site of the Commonwealth Games Village to the council for £250,000, leading to the sale of land around the stadium.
