The Scots inventor of a portable child-safety chair was named runner-up in a national Inspirational Business Mum of the Year contest yesterday.
Rachel Jones, 43, the inventor of Totseat which is now sold in 15 countries worldwide came second to Karen Mattison, co-founder and director of Women Like Us, a not-for-profit recruitment service, in the inspirational mum category at the 2008 Prowess Awards held in Birmingham.
Despite a lack of needlecraft skills, any experience of manufacturing, or a retail background, Rachel created Totseat for her five-year-old daughter, Freya, in 2004.
Rachel's desire to make life easier for parents on the go led her to launch Totseat which she describes as "a compact alternative to the highchair".
