Why a mouse from Bathgate is more fun than pandas from China - or a £5 million shed

TO supper at the North Berwick Burns Club.

The club's president is Barbara Clark, who amassed an array of speakers and musicians, including Iain Gray, erstwhile leader of the McLaybore Pairty. Mr Gray spoke eloquently and with more passion than I could possibly muster on the subject of Oor Native Soil, wisely deciding that it would be daft in front of an audience which included several farmers to discourse on East Lothian's bountiful muck.
