Council was run on a system of patronage that bought loyalty and purged dissidents

 

So now we know. Glasgow City Council needs no lessons from Downing Street on how to operate a patronage system to keep colleagues and possible trouble-makers under control (“A tangled web: how Purcell ran Glasgow”, The Herald, April 1).
