It would be churlish not to welcome the Scottish Government's announcement of a dedicated minister for youth employment, given that a record 100,000 Scots 16 to 24-year-olds are out of work.
Nevertheless, given that the underlying level of youth unemployment has been rising steadily since 2005, it is pertinent to ask when politicians are going to stop hand wringing and making headline-grabbing announcements about this problem and start pursuing policies that have a real impact.
