Helping our young people in need

The words of 19-year-old Nicola Boland from Glasgow’s Blackhill exemplify what the Church of Scotland is attempting to achieve with “An Option for the Young”, its new strategy for helping the country’s most disadvantaged youngsters.

“Religion was never an issue. They’ll let anyone in, as long as they don’t cause trouble. I don’t think I’d be where I am now without it,” she said.

Her story contains no Damascene conversion, no rays of light from the heavens.
