I WISH the politicians and writers who continue to write in about disgraceful conditions at Dungavel would make the same efforts to support the people in this country who have had to live with disabilities without adequate support.

While this government and local authorities have made great strides in providing resources to ensure better social inclusion and literacy and numeracy projects, the problem remains one of inadequate awareness by the general public of what people with disabilities have to cope with.

The general public are bombarded by politicians and their supporters about the unfairness to the immigrants yet people with disabilities including the deaf and deaf-blind are ignored by these same politicians and writers. One example of poor provision is that more money is spent by the public sector on interpreters for foreign-language users that is provided for deaf and deaf-blind people.

Politicians and letter writers are all jumping on the bandwagon to take any opportunity to attack this government.

The children and mothers at Dungavel are much better off there than they were in their own country.
