Osborne needs a Plan B – now

Average annual household energy bills are already close to £1200.

Now there are fears that they will soon be rising again, despite recent warnings from the regulator Ofgem to the six big energy providers that unfair and overcomplex tariffs are hindering proper competition between them. Higher bills will merely pile more pressure on household incomes, which are already being badly squeezed between static or falling wages and higher than anticipated inflation.
