Retailers should be involved in discussions over selling alcohol

The Licensing (Scotland) Act of 2005 was intended to give licensing boards more powers to ensure that alcohol is sold responsibly.

One of the five principles underpinning the legislation is protecting and improving public health. It is a difficult concept in relation to selling alcohol; some might argue that it amounts to a contradiction in terms.
