Scots miss out on cancer advice

Ovarian cancer is notoriously ambiguous in its symptoms.

The common signs of the disease, such as bloating, abdominal pain and feeling full quicker than usual, mirror those of other, more common illnesses.

“You have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS),” one doctor says. “You have gastroenteritis,” says another. Some women, such as Kim Hawker, who shares her experience in The Herald today, spend months being incorrectly diagnosed by GPs and other health professionals until, one day, a scan is finally carried out which reveals that the cancer is already at an advanced stage.
