This time, luck was not on the side of terrorism

After the 1984 Brighton Hotel bombing, the IRA taunted the British government with a chilling statement, ending with the ominous words: “You have to be lucky all the time.

We only have to be lucky once.”

A young terrorist came terrifyingly close to “getting lucky” on Christmas Day, when his attempt to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner was foiled only by the prompt action of flight attendants and fellow passengers.
