Essay of the week: The man who killed Labour

Back in 1993, in the days when Labour was still recognisably a social democratic party, I was tasked with following one of its bright young Cabinet hopes around the Brighton conference fringe.

His name was Tony Blair, and it was a big task because the then Shadow Home Secretary attended up to three fringe meetings every lunchtime.
