I AM in agreement with the suggestion of George Smith (Letters, June 1) regarding leaving verges wild to encourage wild flower growth and so provide foraging areas for bees.

In addition to this, could the relevant local councils take advantage of the vast areas of ongoing ground works due to the upgrading of the A8 to motorway, and sow the new verges, embankments and roundabouts with wild flower seeds?

The cost would be minimal and quite effortless. They could then stand back and allow nature to take its course to the mutual benefit of bees, the local populace and motorway travellers alike.

It seems a low cost way to spruce up North Lanarkshire.
