WHILE it's fantastic news that the plastic bag charge has reduced Scotland's use of carrier bags ("Bag charge raises £1m for charity", The Herald, April 18), it has led me to create a new word to deal with one of its side-effects: bagging (verb).

It's the act of begging the nearest checkout assistant for plastic bags at self-service checkouts that don't trust you to pay for them.
