Further to the letters from Niall Rolland and others promoting established youth organisations being useful all-round character builders (The Herald, February 10).

I remember being at a Boys' Brigade display/inspection in Glasgow's west end. The inspecting officer was a Kirk minister who had vast experience in prison visiting.

He said he always made a point of asking males in prison if they had been in the Boys' Brigade as a child. He said he had yet to meet one who had.
