I AM a recent victim of the somewhat surreptitiously-installed bus gate at Nelson Mandela Place in Glasgow ("Anger at £1.5m bus gate fines", The Herald, August 30).

If, as it has been suggested, this road restriction is a ploy to generate income, I have a much better idea: why not install speed cameras on the M77 between Newton Mearns and the town centre?

If I had £5 for every juggernaut that passed me today at a speed well in excess of the mandatory 50 mph, to say nothing of cars that tailgated me all the way no matter which lane I occupied, I would have made at least £100. Apply the speeding fine to these speed merchants and that would create a very healthy revenue. I can't help but wonder what mysterious, urgent destinations are calling such impatient drivers?
