TO suggest that "David Cameron has proved himself to be a better PM than most" almost made me choke on my cereal this morning.

The reasons laid out by William Scott (Letters, October 23) in my opinion, beggar belief.

Mr Cameron's recent policies seem to be pandering to the right-wing Ukip mob in Europe. Tougher immigration. Benefits cuts for young people. Tax breaks for the rich while thumping the poor. Disabled people being treated as third-class citizens. Selling off large parts of the NHS for the benefit of his Eton chums. The list goes on.

The Coalition Government formed with the Liberal Democrats has proved to be a disaster for ordinary working people and those who are most vulnerable in our society. The Big Society flagship policy (remember that?) has sailed into the history of bad ideas and political soundbites.

The party that was to get tough on the deficit has actually increased it in the past four years. Spin and deceit seem to be at the heart of Mr Cameron's policies. He seems to have regarded Orwell's 1984 as a manual.

Mr Cameron and his Bullingdon pals have declared an ideological war on the things that we hold dear in our society. Everything that can be privatised has been privatised. We, as a society, own practically nothing in our country.

"A better PM than most"? I beg to differ.
