It wasn't so long ago that Greenpeace was accused of being alarmist in relation to potential oil spills arising from new drilling off Greenland.
We were told robust measures were in place to cope with spills.
Now with oil leaking from Shell’s Gannet Alpha platform in the North Sea, can we really be confident proper procedures are in place to safeguard spills from rigs in the treacherous waters round our coasts (“Shell: North Sea oil leak has reached 200 tonnes”, The Herald, August 16)?
