Edinburgh City Council must now face up to reality over trams project
At last we have an admission from Transport Initiatives Edinburgh (Tie) and Edinburgh City Council that their secret talks with the contractors have actually got nowhere ("Trams leaders will beg for extra funding", The Herald, April 30 ).
Both the council and Tie have been exceptionally coy about what has happened with these talks, but informed observers have known for ages that the council has been in such a weak position, with such a pathetically inept contract that there was little hope of success. It was also clear that to try legal action would have been a financial disaster. So we must be thankful that those supposed to be in charge have faced up to realities.
