Economics is often called the "dismal science", but a science of sorts it is.
And economics does not end at the Scottish Border. It is therefore surprising that the Jimmy Reid Foundation claims working significantly fewer hours will lead to greater economic productivity in an independent Scotland (Report urges four-day week in indy Scotland, News, April 13).
If Scotland wishes to emulate the most successful European nations then we will firstly need a more efficient, productive, dynamic economy.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
