You list a process whereby the people of Edinburgh will finally see completion of tram construction: if only that were true ("Final phase of tramworks is due to begin", May 25).

The City of Edinburgh Council issued a revised programme for the construction works in February 2012. Since this programme was issued, the St Andrew Square section was delivered six months late and the York Place section was delivered six months early, with Shandwick Place and Haymarket sections still to be completed.

This same programme outlined a process for cable installation starting at Shandwick Place before June 2013 and continuing until the end of March 2014.

Commissioning and running in the line is due to start in October 2013 and run until July/September 2014. The process you article outlines suggests this programme (to complete the project for a sum of £734 million with a contingency of £42m) is not being adhered to, making it difficult to believe this project could be up and running by Christmas 2013.

A good example of this would be the current cabling works on Lothian Road that were due to be completed by Easter and are still ongoing.
