THE UK Government's treatment of American musician Steve Forman, who is fighting deportation, is a disgrace ("Percussion legend forced out of Conservatoire post in immigration rules wrangle", The Herald, October 23).

Self-supporting and contributing to society by passing on his skills to students, it is a travesty that Mr Forman should face being kicked out of Britain because his earnings don't reach the arbitrary threshold imposed by the Government.

Is there no flexibility to deal with deserving individual cases? This comes at a time when the UK is unable to deport thousands of foreign criminals, thereby exposing the farcical nature of our immigration system.
