AFTER the Letters Pages in The Herald, I always turn next to the Obituaries page.

What a pity people have to die to be so eulogised.

Saturday's obituaries were a case in point. Three excellent people who have lived good lives, each very differently, but achieving much. Most often it is this page which makes me smile as sometimes the photographs used show such amiable faces. The world is a good place when those people have lived in it, and others like them continue to do so. We should be thankful for them.

Save our Janice

SO BBC Radio Scotland is replacing Janice Forsyth with "more news and sport content" ("Radio Scotland dropping Janice Forsyth Show after 18 years", The Herald, February 4). Both news and sport are already at saturation level on BBC Radio Scotland.

The heart of radio is the spoken word and music. Janice, a great example of the radio broadcaster at her best, is the soul of BBC Scotland. Her show, perfectly pitched to be part of the weekend rhythm for many, is radio gold. Time to think again BBC unless you want to alienate a huge sector of your audience
