traditionally a genteel way of not mentioning unpalatable realities, euphemism has become a means of systematically distorting the truth.
When banks engage in a swindle it's called "mis-selling". Forms are issued requesting one states one's "gender" rather than sex. When officials are found guilty of bullying and others of downright hooliganism, it is described as "inappropriate behaviour".
We are yet to use the American phrase "rest room" to identify the lavatory, but I'm sure it will appear soon as the language of truth goes on being eroded by euphemism.
