Scotland voted yesterday to remain a part of the United Kingdom and there appears to be no doubt that this outcome was influenced by the last-minute promises made by the three Westminster Unionist parties.

We will be able to give our views on their progress towards fulfilling these promises next May at the General Election.

Well, sorry, those of us 18 or over will be able to give our verdict, but what about all the 16 and 17-year-olds who have done themselves and their country proud by participating in the debate and voting in the referendum? Will they now be disenfranchised? This should not be tolerated and the franchise must be extended now to maintain the democratic rights of these citizens.
