I AM interested to know how Mr Carmichael's psychoanalysis skills apply to other politicians.

What mental illness, pray, would he suggest a politician must suffer from in order to leak a highly suspect memorandum about a political opponent and lie about leaking said memo when asked about it on the record, before being forced to admit said leak?

One must assume some particularly interesting delusions would be required for this hypothetical subject to then keep their job.

What precise malady is the cause? Should this subject be sent to hospital or treated in the community?

I heartily look forward to Dr Carmichael MD's recommendation.

NICK Clegg ("Clegg hits out at Tory fear tactics at election", The Herald, June 26) may be correct in suggesting that the Tory tactic of talking up the possibility of a Labour-SNP alliance "chilled the English heart" and helped spur the Liberal Democrat losses in England.

However, significantly, in the constituencies in which LibDems held on in England, the loss of LibDem votes was not to the Tories but to Ukip, Labour and the Greens.

Indeed, in such constituencies the Tory vote fell by between 1.2 per cent and 9.9 per cent, with the 9.9 per cent being in Nick Glegg's own constituency of Sheffield Hallam.
