IT is good that plain-clothes council officials will be handed powers to inspect and confiscate disabled parking badges after a new law was passed by MSPs to stamp out abuse of the system ("Blue badge abuse law passed", The Herald, August 20.)

And it would be good also if something could be done to stamp out the abuse of designated parking spaces for the disabled and those with children in supermarket parking when those spaces are taken by obviously able-bodied with no disabled badges or children.

It should not be left to members of the public to challenge the offenders.

The supermarkets could surely do more to monitor this but I've never yet seen that happen.

Or would it be bad for business?
