AN Oxford University study, reported online in BJOG, An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, states that the nation's financially-deprived mothers are 60 per cent less likely to receive antenatal care than the more affluent members of society.

I would take issue with that finding.

For more than 40 years I worked in general practice, most of the time in none-too-affluent Possilpark.

To quote a line from the 1946 movie, I Know Where I'm Going, the people did not have much money but they weren't poor, and I believe that our staff gave these people excellent and painstaking care.

And this care is still ongoing.

I would like to reassure the expectant mothers of Glasgow that, no matter their circumstances, they will continue to receive the best antenatal care available from all Glasgow doctors.
