We agree with the hope, expressed in your leader, that the appointment of two more women to the SNP government Cabinet is more than window-dressing (Positive message reaping rewards, Editorial, April 13).
In the case of Shona Robison, that this is one of the most significant appointments to any Scottish or UK Cabinet. For the first time we have a minister in charge of sport sitting alongside the other political heavyweights who control the rest of the Government's programme.
The Ramblers and many other outdoor and sporting organisations have been arguing for this for many years - it is essential to our efforts to make Scotland a more active nation. The prospects of delivering a world-class physical activity legacy from the Commonwealth Games have taken a giant leap forward.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
