IN his appreciation of the Wimbledon spectacle Brian Beacom enthuses that each year the ladies game will offer up someone the world has never heard of - and will never hear of again ("Choose your hero as pure sporting entertainment begins", The Herald, June29 ).

Would that it were so, when many of the lady competitors accompany their undoubted expertise with the decibels ranging from grunts to ear-piercing shrieks on every shot, making the experience watchable only on mute.

There is more than one form of racket abuse.
