YOU report that drivers are struggling to read road signs ("Christmas drivers urged to check sight", The Herald, December 19).

It seems that some drivers' eyesight is below standard and that they are unable to read a number plate at the required distance of 20.5 meters.

I think drivers should also be tested on their ability to read a speedometer. It is obvious that, judging by the speed they drive at, many would fail such a test.
