I RECENTLY had occasion to be in Ayr Hospital for almost six week for procedures on my right foot (I am of an age where I can recall them being called operations).

We constantly hear of excessive waiting times, targets not met and so on, and a general running-down of the NHS. May I take this opportunity to redress the balance a little.

From initially being picked up at home by two very helpful and understanding paramedics, the extremely high standard of care continued through admissions, the nurses, auxiliaries, theatre team, doctors and surgeons. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Requests for assistance, no matter what time day, were always dealt with efficiently and courteously.

I have nothing but admiration for these people, who do a very difficult and trying job day in, day out.

While people like them are within the health service we have nothing to worry about.

Iain Eadie,

7 Douglas Avenue, Prestwick.

I HAD occasion to visit the Western Infirmary in Glasgow this week and I have to express my sincere thanks for a very caring, thoughtful and compassionate experience under very difficult circumstances for both staff and patients. The staff staff who made every patient feel special, not just a number. As the team only had one radiographer on duty instead of two there was, naturally, a lengthy wait to be screened. All patients received an apology for the wait and indeed were thanked by everyone involved for their patience. Thanks go to all.
