IT is good to see mention made of those Merchant Navy seafarers who lost their lives during two world wars, too often unmentioned in Remembrance services and on war memorials throughout the country.("Wreaths laid for merchant seamen", The Herald, November 17).

Preceding the wreath-laying ceremony at the Scottish Seafarers Memorial mention is also made of the service at South Leith Parish Church. This, in fact, was the 70th such Annual Scottish Service for Seafarers, held under the auspices of the Sailors' Society (formerly the British Sailors' Society). Those who have lost their lives at sea, be they Royal or Merchant Navy, fishermen or lifeboatmen, have then always been remembered in prayers.
