ONCE again the General Assembly has procrastinated ("Church delays final ruling on gay marriage until next year", The Herald, May 22).

In this instance the delay is justified, as it appears that only 410 commissioners actually voted on the issue.

I understand that some 800 commissioners were present, which indicates that only just over half voted.

Given the apparent reluctance of so many on the Mound to a vote, perhaps the General Assembly should now consider asking the entire church membership (currently estimated at 380,000) how it views the issue.
