FOR 15 years or so I have been walking from Bellahouston Park with a guide, along with a dozen or so like-minded people, under the auspices originally of Glasgow City Council and now under Glasgow Life.

We pay £7.90 for this and our leader takes us in a minibus to a country location a short distance from the city, where we walk for varied distances (around five miles) every Monday. We leave Bellahouston at 10am (previously 9.30) and return at around 2.30pm.

Until a couple of years ago we would have a full day walk once a month where we would venture further afield and possibly have a longer walk. We have seen many beautiful views and walked on varied terrain over the years. We all keep our Mondays free as we enjoy the camaraderie and the exercise. This walking programme takes place on the other days of the week from various other leisure centres in the city.

It has reached our ears in recent weeks that this programme is to cease at the end of the year. We have not had any official notification as yet - but we fear there is no smoke without fire.

We are afraid that all the talk of the legacy of the Games which has been noised abroad and which was going to do so much for the welfare and well-being of the city has been nothing but idle chatter.
