"Scotland forever" was the Napoleonic battle cry of my relatives, Major MacDonald and brevet Major Campbell

I note that Bonaparte is prayed in aid by Richard Mowbray (Letters, February 22).

Perhaps I can remind him that when my two relatives, the cousins Major Donald MacDonald and brevet Major Dugald Campbell, led the day-saving charge of the Gordon Highlanders at the Battle of Waterloo (when their 200 men from Brae Lochaber put to flight a 3000-strong column of Napoleon's elite guards), the battle cry which they exchanged with the Scots Greys as they thundered past to complete the rout, was "Scotland forever".
