Scotland has much in its favour and could easily have its own AAA rating

I WAS intrigued to read that three international credit agencies have "indicated" their view that Scotland could not rely on having a triple A credit rating if it became independent ("Government rejects fears of AAA rating downgrade", The Herald February 7).

This was seized upon by the three Unionist parties in support of their depressing forecasts of doom and disaster.

However, all three agencies declined to give details of the specific facts and figures on which they had based their conclusion, on the grounds that no-one had actually asked them for an opinion.
