CHRIS Murray has quite rightly complained about the parking arrangements at the SECC/Hydro (Letters, December 24) .

Last month I drew this unsatisfactory situation to the attention of the SECC management and received their explanation as follows: parking at the SECC is operated by City Parking ( Glasgow ) LLP, with their primary parking area being the new multi-storey car park at the venue and this was a fait accompli. Previous car parks will shortly be taken over by the Commonwealth Games organisers to construct a media centre, thus all parking at the venue will remain in the multi-storey car park .

Regarding signage to find this venue, this was entirely in the hands of Glasgow City Council. So there we are, none of it is the SECC's responsibility, and the customers just have to put up with it.

Chris Murray's experience mirrors my own and my sat nav had a nervous breakdown in the nightmare labyrinth of roadworks leading to the Hydro's Andre Rieu concert. Efforts to follow the ill-lit, badly-positioned signs were not helped by the aggression of Glasgow motorists whose bad manners are up there with New York cab drivers.

While the city endlessly proclaims the "friendliness" of its citizens, anyone buying a second-hand car locally should be aware that the horn will be worn out.

However unlike Mr Murray I thought the Hydro concert hall was excellent, with plenty of loos, seats designed for those getting broad in the beam and fabulous acoustics.
