REGARDING the recent letter from Alex Orr (December 8), I wish to point out that the British Museum possesses around a third of the Elgin Marbles, the Acropolis Museum a third while the rest was destroyed (during conflict before Lord Elgin arrived in Greece).

REGARDING the recent letter from Alex Orr (December 8), I wish to point out that the British Museum possesses around a third of the Elgin Marbles, the Acropolis Museum a third while the rest was destroyed (during conflict before Lord Elgin arrived in Greece). If the Temple of Athena could be restored to its full glory, I would agree. But sadly as this is not achievable, the present arrangement of sharing the surviving Marbles is fair and reasonable, it seems to me.
