Station concerns may lead to cuts

THE concern raised on the Glasgow Queen Street-Anniesland via Maryhill rail services is a means of drastically reducing the present services as, if this route is not to be electrified, there would be great difficulty in accommodating them as at present in Queen Street high-level (HL) ("SPT warns against station closures", The Herald, February 8) .

This is the reason given for the fact that Cumbernauld/Falkirk Grahamston services will reverse at Springburn and be re-routed to Queen Street low-level (LL). Queen Street HL will obviously not be able to handle them come the increased Edinburgh and Glasgow services under Edinburgh-Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) plans. Has note been taken that services terminating/starting at Queen Street LL will have to run as empty stock to at least the Finnieston/Hyndland area to reverse their journey route?
