THE case of primary school teacher Jan Holden, found unfit to teach by the General Teaching Council for Scotland, highlights the need to support those with the chronic, disabling condition Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), sometimes diagnosed as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) ("Teacher asks to be removed from professional register", The Herald, April 16).

Ms Holden is just one of the 20,000 people in Scotland with ME/CFS, many of whom are simply too ill to work. However, with the right support, others may be able to return to, or remain in, employment.

Action for ME's booklets for employees and employers offer information and advice about the Equality Act 2010, NHS guidelines, reasonable adjustments, sick pay, carers' rights and more. They can be read or downloaded them for free at www.actionforme.org.uk.
